The Grand Theft Auto series is known for having some of the most memorable games and missions. From the infamous toy helicopter mission from Vice City to the one where we must follow the train in San Andreas, every player has a favorite mission. Grand Theft Auto: Online continues the trend by adding new missions through updates.
Today, we want to take a closer look at the Project Breakaway File mission that was introduced with GTA Online’s Agents of Sabotage update. This includes every step players must follow to complete the setup missions as well as the actual heist and what players should do to quickly complete it. Naturally, we’ll also highlight the payout and tips for increasing profit.
So, without further ado, here’s how to complete the Project Breakaway File mission in GTA Online.
Completing the Setup Missions
The Project Breakaway File is an exciting inclusion to the Agents of Sabotage DLC in GTA Online. The mission requires players to finish three setup missions before tackling the high-stakes finale. You can complete this challenging heist and secure a great payout with precise planning. Below is a complete guide to completing The Project Breakaway File:
Mission 1: Mobile Tracking
In this mission, you must find an Eberhard van and stash an RC Bandito. Use the RC Bandito to search one of three zones marked with yellow circles on the map. Drive close to the van and start the hack by pressing the button shown on the screen. Stay close until the hack is complete. Once the rear bay opens, drive the RC Bandito inside. The timing window for stashing the RC car is small, so make quick work of it.
Mission 2: Thermal Charges
This mission has two parts, one requires stealth, and the other combat skills. Head to a Post OP depot and find the delivery list inside office cabins. Send a photo of the list to Jodi Marshall, and try not to be spotted. For the second part, break into a SecuroServe warehouse to collect thermal charges. Prepare by stocking up on armor, snacks, and ammo to deal with the heavy security at the warehouse. Once collected, deliver the charges to the Darnell Bros Garment Factory.
Mission 3: Encryption Bypass
In the last setup mission, you’ll steal malware from an agent’s apartment. Break into the apartment’s basement by solving a mini-game that involves aligning bars on the keypad. Eliminate the guards inside and retrieve the malware hard drive. Next, track down and eliminate the agent present in a separate location. Try not to leave any evidence behind. Photograph the agent’s body using your in-game phone and send it to Jodi. Deliver the malware to the Darnell Bros Garment Factory to finish the setup missions.
Completing the Main Heist
Now that you know the steps you must follow to complete the heist’s setup, it’s time to highlight the actual steps required for completing the main heist.
Step 1: Infiltrate Project Breakaway
The finale begins with locating Project Breakaway. Use the Trackify app on your in-game phone to track the nerve gas pumps. Once found, follow the red dot on the radar to the nerve gas pump location. Eliminate the guards and clear the area outside to create a safe path for infiltration. Use the RC Bandito from the setup missions to navigate inside the facility and detonate it near the nerve gas pumps. The blast will disable the pumps and open a path into the building.
Step 2: Steal the Data
Once inside the facility, the rest of the objectives demand patience and careful execution. Use the nearby computer to solve a word puzzle and upload the malware into the system. While the upload completes, you must defend yourself against waves of enemies, so ensure you’re well-armed. Afterward, plant thermal charges on cell doors to breach them and access the items inside. Steal the Server Blades, Hard Drives, and Black Boots inside. This phase is filled with intense combat, so use cover and manage your resources like weapons and armor wisely.
Step 3: Escape with the Goods
With the data in your hand, your final task is to escape and safely deliver the stolen items. Fight your way through several waves of enemies as you make your way out of the building. During your getaway, use sharp turns and utilize your map knowledge to take hidden routes and lose persuaders. Finally, make your way to the driver’s location and hand over the stolen items, marking the completion of the heist.
Tips to maximize rewards in the Project Breakaway File mission
Focus on completing the bonus objectives to maximize your rewards during the Project Breakaway mission. These include locating the Project Breakaway within 5 minutes, hitting 15 headshots during the mission, and recovering all Black Books and Server Blades from the facility. While the mission can be completed solo, teaming up with up to four players will enhance efficiency and increase your chances of securing bonus payouts.
Proper mission prep is also essential, so equip snacks, body armor, and ammo to survive the waves of guards, and consider using night vision goggles in darker zones to make things easy. The mission has a base payout of GTA $150,000, but you can secure an additional GTA $150,000 by completing all three bonus challenges. This high-stakes robbery is the most thrilling out of the 4 Garment Factory missions and combines strategy and action to create an unforgettable heist.
It’s important to note that players must repeat the setup missions after completing the mission once, similar to other heists in the game. Therefore, it’s recommended that players first stack the setup missions along with their friends before going through the heist multiple times. This way, players can also divide the overall payout fairly, ensuring no one is left out.
However, those who don’t have friends or acquaintances willing or able to complete the Project Breakaway File mission with them may have to play alongside randoms or complete the whole thing alone. Fortunately, it isn’t too difficult, so those who have completed other heists in GTA Online likely won’t have much difficulty.
