Leaks confirm 5 mechanics that will be in GTA 6
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be huge, even if most of it is unknown. Fortunately, we have a couple of mechanics we know will be in it.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is easily the most awaited game of all time, with countless fans worldwide anticipating it. For good reasons too, as Grand Theft Auto 5 was a smash hit that continues to break records even today over ten years since the game came out. However, while it’s confirmed GTA 6 is on the horizon, fans don’t have much to go on.
Fans only got one trailer in 2023 that gave them tidbits of information like there being two characters and the game taking place in Vice City. Aside from that, there are only assumptions and speculations. What some players may not know is that there are also several leaks that came out before the trailer.
Today, we want to take a look at some mechanics that were leaked to be in Grand Theft Auto 6. From shooting from cars to regrowing your hair, here are five mechanics confirmed to be in Grand Theft Auto 6.
#1: Shooting from car windows
What are the two things that play the biggest roles in Grand Theft Auto games? Cars and guns, of course. When speeding away from enemies, it can get tough to save your car’s tires from getting burst by stray bullets. After all, there’s nothing worse than having to drive with burst tires.
Fortunately, in Grand Theft Auto 6, players will be able to return fire using their own bullets. Players had to use cheat codes back in the era of San Andreas, but GTA 6 will let players shoot from the windows of their cars. This mechanic was confirmed to be present in the game thanks to a leaked clip that showcased Jason in a car at a tennis court, sticking his weapon out the window and shooting while leaning out.
It’s currently unconfirmed what the limitations of this mechanic will be. However, it’s safe to assume that players will only be able to use one-handed weapons like pistols and micro-SMGs. Double-handed weapons will likely be restricted to on-foot use only as it was with Grand Theft Auto 5.
#2: Gumball Machines
Grand Theft Auto games have traditionally had machines players can interact with for a quick snack. Whether it be a soda machine or something else, players can always rely on these vending machines when their health is low and they don’t want to look for a health pack.
Well, it seems like the snack mechanic will be returning in Grand Theft Auto 6 in the form of Gumball Machines. A leaked GTA 6 clip shows Lucia purchasing gumballs, even if it didn’t show the actual effect. However, we can safely assume the gumball is to heal the character’s health, similar to other snacks. It’s unknown what other snacks will be in the game.
The inclusion of Gumball Machines also suggests Grand Theft Auto 6 will have restaurants players can go to. Eating food has been a huge deal since Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and one thing fans want to see make a return is too much food affecting the character’s physical appearance.
#3: Proning on the ground
Stealth in Grand Theft Auto games has been a fairly controversial topic. While some games let players at least crouch when moving to ensure they’re harder to detect, others don’t have that and players must avoid the enemy’s line of sight while being in their usual position.
Well, it looks like Grand Theft Auto 6 will take things to the next level with the inclusion of proning. One of the many Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks shows a clip of Jason going prone and crawling under a pile of crates. If this mechanic makes it to the game, players will have a new way to bypass certain areas without wasting precious ammo.
#4: Grappling in hand-to-hand combat
Hand-to-hand combat in Grand Theft Auto games has always been fairly straightforward. The player punches enemies until they fall, after which the player just has to kick them enough times to eliminate them. However, Grand Theft Auto 6 will seemingly take a page out of a different Rockstar game series’ book.
We are, of course, talking about the extremely beloved game Red Dead Redemption 2. According to a leaked clip, Jason is seen grappling with enemies during hand-to-hand combat in a way that resembles what Arthur Morgan can do in Red Dead Redemption 2.
While unconfirmed, this likely means GTA 6 will give more importance to hand-to-hand combat. Since shooting is a quick and easy way to decimate enemies and doesn’t leave much room to distinguish between regular enemies and named ones, hand-to-hand combat can potentially make some story moments more impactful. Imagine having to fight the final boss in a grand hand-to-hand battle to increase the stakes.
#5: Hair growth mechanics
Most players likely already guessed this mechanic would return in Grand Theft Auto 6, but players can change the hairstyles of Lucia and Jason. Countless memes on social media show CJ going into a barber shop bald and coming out with a large afro, and there’s a chance this may happen in GTA 6 too.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that Grand Theft Auto 6 seems to focus more on realism. If the game already took the grappling mechanics from Red Dead Redemption 2, there’s a chance it may also borrow the hair growth mechanics from that game.
In RDR 2, Arthur’s hair and facial hair slowly grow as the in-game time passes. While no Grand Theft Auto game thus far has had this, it would be cool to see it in GTA 6. Different GTA 6 leaks show Jason with different amounts of hair, from stubble to a long beard. Adding the hair growth mechanics from RDR 2 will ensure players will have to go to the barber to maintain their favorite look, increasing the impact of roleplaying and the overall realism.
